Bold Lips, Skin Oils and More Fall Beauty Trends You Should Try – StyleBlueprint (blog)

Fall is a transition time when it comes to beauty; the warmer colors of the season aren’t only seen on trees and in our clothing choices, but also on our faces, as well. Whether it’s using skin-soothing oils or plant oil-infused cosmetics, indulging in skincare products that keep your skin glowing — or experimenting with bold lips and eyes — the season of “play with your makeup” is here!

We caught up with makeup and skincare experts across Memphis to find out what looks and products are hot for the season.

4 Beauty Trends for Fall 2016

Fall Beauty Trend: Color Change

“I love makeup for all seasons but I would have to say Fall/Winter is my favorite,” says Heather Balkunas of HEATHER Boutique and Spa. “It’s the perfect time to try a little (or a lot) of drama.” She says, in a nutshell, fall is all about pretty makeup that suits your own face and style.

As temperatures cool down, colors are warming up. “Fall means settling into a more neutral color palette than summer, with a lot more mattes,” says Lily Stover, the Bobbi Brown specialist at Joseph.

Bobbi Brown's 'New York" anniversary set, $65 features cheek color and an eye quad and is shown with Luxe lipstick in Pink Nude, $35 and Dark Chocolate Ink eyeliner, $28.

Heather celebrates the colors of the season with a dark and dreamy lip lacquer that can be used as a topcoat to warm up a red lipstick (red is definitely a hot lip color for the season!) or can be used alone for a more sheer look. She’s also showing off warm colors in eye and cheek shades, which easily are gathered and stored in a handy magnetic portfolio.

When we think of fall, we think of those rich hues that warm the spirit – and Aveda’s Fōklôr collection pays homage to those gorgeous colors, says Meagan Kitterlin, salon manager at Pavo Salon Spa. With colors like dusted sage and balsam for eyes and slate shimmer or metallic gold eyeliner pencils, it’s easy to bring in a touch of fall color in a makeup routine.

Fall Beauty Trend: Bold Eyes

This fall, Lesa Goodwin, Trish McEvoy regional makeup artist at Oak Hall, says it’s all about the eyes. Bold eyes.

“It’s all about framing the eyes,” says Lesa, using eyebrow and eyelash mascara to define her clients’ brows and lashes. Strong lines are important, yes, but not lines per se, says Lesa. “We’re talking definition, created by using a gel pencil to place dots along the lash line,” she says, noting to make sure to fade out the line at the edge of the eye, simply by smudging it a bit. “That keeps the eye open.”

From Oak Hall: Trish McEvoy Lash Curling Mascara $31.50;Lash Enhancing Liquid Liner $48.50; Intense Gel Eyeliner $28.50; Brow Mascara Long Wear $30.00 and Dramatic Lashes, $22.00. Shown with Highlights powder $35.00 and Golden Glamour Bronzer, $33.00.

Use the powders for contouring, which Lesa Goodwin says is still a trend for fall.

Fall Beauty Trend: Glowing Skin

Donna Madison, the Laura Mercier  specialist at Joseph, says, “We’ll see more all-over luminosity this season.” And that luminosity comes not only from powder that provides a glowing finish, but also from skincare products that provide an inner glow. The idea with the skincare products is effortless, with an emphasis on ease, says Eddie Shada of Joseph.

Face oils also provide that glowing look, says Eddie – with no fear of creating blemishes, but simply balancing the skin’s natural oils and offering a radiant glow.

La Mer Renewal Oil, $240; Natura Bisse Diamond Extreme oil, $160 and mask, $110, at Joseph.

HEATHER just launched a new paraben-free, plant-based oil that “locks moisture into the skin and is super hydrating,” says Heather. “It also has very unique antiseptic facial oils that help decongest the skin so it’s also perfect for oily skins.”

Skincare pairings that bring a glow to the skin: Heather Essential Youth Oil, $34; oil free daily moisturizer $39; Mineral tint, $38; exfoliating glycolic cleanser, $39 and soothing under eye balm, $22, from Heather Boutique & Spa

Our experts say a swirl of powder infused with glowing properties brings out natural beauty. But don’t think that a powder with glowing properties equals an ’80s club face. “The look isn’t shiny, it’s not a club look,” says Eddie, “but a healthy glow.”

Glow beautifully and naturally with Laura Mercier Face Illuminator, $44 and add a punch of fall color with Velour Lovers Lip colors, $28 each, at Joseph.

Fall Beauty Trend: Contrasts

The fall season is naturally full of contrasts — like warm days and crisp nights — and fall makeup is, too. Meagan Kitterlin of Pavo says the trick is to balance the bold with the subtle. So think those bold eyes that Lesa talked about paired with neutral lips, or flip that idea and go with bold lips paired with neutral eyes.

“If you do a smoky eye, keep the lips lighter,” agrees Heather. “Of course, I also love a clean eye with bold liner, lots of mascara and a deeper lip. We have so many beautiful colors this season (that) the number of looks to create is limitless.”

Meagan Kitterlin of Pavo demonstrates the “eclipting lip,” a bold and beautiful look for fall:

Firsrt, use a pencil liner around the edges of the lips, and fill in...

First, use a pencil liner around the edges of the lips and fill in, leaving a space with no color in the center of upper and lower lips …

Then, add lip color all over...

Finally, finish the lip with a glaze focused in middle of upper and lower lips, which gives lips depth and texture.

Finally, our experts say have fun this fall as you play with new colors and new products. “Fall is a time to phase into the holiday season, a grace period to play around,” says Lily.

And, incorporating trends into your personal look is all about balance and layering, adds Lesa. “It’s all about creating a wardrobe (of makeup products and tools). Each step increases or dresses up a look; just have fun with it.”
