Zoe Sidel Is Fashion’s Modern-Day Medieval Girl Crush – Vogue.com

“Greetings mi’lady!” is how photographer Phil Oh captioned an Instagram of his street style shot of Zoe Sidel. Though the 21-year-old actress and artist (she’s the daughter of actress Rosanna Arquette and the niece of the late actress and transgender activist Alexis Arquette) was captured in modern-day Chinatown outside of the Eckhaus Latta show yesterday, the Shakespearean phrase suits her. Sidel, whose face radiates an ethereal, dewy glow, is equally reminiscent of a subject plucked from a Rembrandt painting. Swathed in a look that evoked feudal luxury, she wore a crinkly gilded sari tied over a Turkmen-style skirt with shocks of blood red, royal blue, and emerald green—all of it fastened together with a metal medallion coin belt. On top, she wore a cropped citrine velvet bodice-corset with puckered white sleeves, adding a slice of allure and a peek of midriff. She added a pendant-choker around the neck—and coyly accessorized that with a fan. (It was a hot day after all.) But the one giveaway piece that proved Sidel is not actually a time-traveling beauty from a world of yesteryear? She wore crimson Maison Margiela Tabi boots that she seamlessly worked into her otherwise medieval getup.

Though plenty of Fashion Week–goers have peacocking on the brain (read: Vetements hoodies in 90-degree weather), Sidel’s look felt less like a sartorial stunt to appeal to street style photographers (even though it did have that effect) and more like a channeling of her true, theatrical self. The actress, who has had mainstream roles in The Bling Ring, as well as has an upcoming part in The Velvet Gentleman, lives the fairy-tale look. Her Instagram @____zoe_bleu____ is a foggy-filtered curation of dark, gothic imagery, dotted at times with undersaturated florals and a recent heartfelt homage to her beloved aunt.

Fashion-wise, Sidel has modeled for the underground cool-kids’ label Moses Gauntlett Cheng, and has her own art collective, @nataeu that she runs with Arielle Chiara and Darius Khonsary. Off-duty you can catch her in the midst of a downtown group of fellow otherworldly beings, like Iranian-American model Leila Rahimi (known for her own outré look), and the artist and musician Daniela Czenstochowski. In such cool company, and with a sure footing in the art world, Sidel is clearly one to watch. She’s the girl with the Margiela boots—and much, much more.
