Karthi – Kaashmora
Of late, actor Karthi has been spotted at film events, and even giving interviews, sporting a stylish Fedora. We now know why. The actor’s look in one of his films, Kaashmora, was recently revealed, and it had Karthi sporting a bald look. Apparently, he plays a role of an insane warlord in this period-fantasy film, and that’s why he decided to tonsure his head… to add authenticity to his character, and to look fierce and scary. Looks like this chocolate boy does have a mean streak!
Rajinikanth – Sivaji
Superstar Rajinikanth has played it safe, especially when it comes to his hairdo, but he made an exception for the Shankar directorial Sivaji, where he sported a bald look for the entire climax sequence of the film. His ‘motta boss’ act went down well with his fans, too, and many of them even shaved their own head, as a style statement, just after the film released.
Sathyaraj – Bahubali
While the question of ‘Why Katappa killed Bahubali’ continues to boggle film buffs, let us focus, for a second, on Katappa’s look. Played by Sathyaraj, Katappa’s character is crucial to the film, no doubt. Sathyaraj, too, decided to tonsure his head for the role, to give a different look to the character on screen. He played a role of the king’s slave, in this mega-budget historical film.
Suriya – Ghajini
Suriya shaved off his head, to play the role of a short-term memory loss patient in Murugadoss’s Ghajini, a character who was desparate to take revenge on those who shattered his life. His appearance was an instant hit with the youngsters. Suriya also beefed up his muscles for the role, for the first time.
Lakshmy Ramakrishnan – Yuddham Sei
Lakshmy Ramakrishnan surprised one and all with her different appearance, for Mysskin’s Yuddham Sei. Without being cautious about her looks, she decided to shave off her head completely. She garnered wide appreciation from critics for her bold attempt, essaying the role of a rape victim’s mother.
Kamal Haasan – Aalavandhan
Kamal Haasan is a perfectionist who can do anything for cinema. Going bald is not that difficult for Ulaganayagan, but its quite tough, when he had to play dual roles in the film. In Aalavandhan, Kamal essayed an uncompromising army officer, while the other role was that of a mentally disturbed character, who is the former’s brother. He tonsured his head for the latter, and put on some weight, too. Though the film didn’t make the cash registers ring at the box-office, the film remains an important one in the actor’s career.
Vikram – I
Vikram is one actor who always strives to do versatile roles, and is ready to undergo any sort of transformation for the same. He not only reduced 50kg of his weight for a role (a hunchback man) in the film, but also managed to shave off his head for the character. His transformation as a body-builder to a virus-infected person, was widely appreciated by the audience as well as critics. Though director Shankar didn’t insist on him going bald, Vikram, known for his dedication, tonsured his head to apply prosthetic boils on his heads.
Vivekh – Sakalakala Vallavan
Of late, comedian Vivekh is trying out different looks and hairstyles for his roles. While he surprised his fans with a salt-and-pepper look in Gautham Menon’s Yennai Arindhaal, he shaved off his head for his next film Sakalakala Vallavan which had Jayam Ravi in the lead. The actor played a character called Vettaiyan, and provided a complete comic relief in the film.
